Default antiX-M8.5-rc2 available

Almost there.

http://www.mepisimo.com/antix/Test-releases/antiX-M8.5/

This version has one major change from rc1 and previous test releases.
Dependency based booting is enabled in livecd so no message to convert on install first boot.
Startup scripts slightly adjusted.
Hopefully this will not affect slower computers, in fact it should speed up boot time even in live mode.
New dpi=XX cheatcode.
2.6.32-7 MEPIS kernel.
Apps upgraded.
Minor tweaks to menus.
wicd 1.7 (fixed version from Debian sid).
Latest transmission from Debian sid (due to security bug).

Post feedback in this thread.

Enjoy!

antiX "Marek Edelman", "Tȟašúŋke Witkó", "Intifada!", "Toussaint Louverture", "VETËVENDOSJE!", "Lysistrata" and "Spartacus" - all lean and mean.

Great--RC1 is running very well on my netbook and I am looking forward to testing this on another machine.

Request: is it too late to ask for an easier way to make Fluxbox the default? Maybe at least the appropriate file could be added to the Control Centre? Hope it isn't already there and I missed it!

Jerry,

use the desktop=fluxbox cheat in live and that will carry over to install to make fluxbox the default.

Is that in the new FAQs? And what if someone wants to change default after trying one WM for a while?

My suggestion from the user perspective would be to see the file made available in Control Centre and instructions in the FAQs. For now. Maybe eventually there could be a small GUI app that is populated with the available managers and radio buttons for designating default.

Jerry, as usual what sets the default WM/DE is the display manager, in antiX, SLiM.
antiX tweaked /etc/slim.conf for it to look at ~/.xinitrc for that. I believe that may have been done so a normal user could edit it and, as you know, it's very simple.
In case slim is upgraded (what may happen specially if one upgrades to sid repos) and the maintainer's /etc/slim.conf is installed you can change the default WM by editing it (and through the Control Center, by the 'Edit Slim' entry or something like that). Just put the one you want as default as the first entry in the line with all the wm's.
I'm not in antiX now since I'm without a monitor at home but it's very simple and it would be easy to add something about slim to the FAQ (also telling about the F1 key to change WM's and other commands like 'console' - slim is very simple all around).

I know how to do it, but a new user will have no clue.

Great, I didn't find that. Let's get that into the new FAQs.

Can I install Control Center in my Live USB install of the Base rc2 iso or do I need to just edit a text file to get control center in Base Install Live USB?

Already have XFCE lite booting up as Default Desktop. Just wondering if I can have Control Center also in Base?

Not yet, rokytnji.
When eriefisher and I get some time we'll set up a small antiX repo so users can download antiXcc (and other antiX specific apps) like any deb.
