Post M8.5 B4 bug list

I'll start with wireless: the last few betas simply don't see my BCM4306 chipset. I know how to fix it, but newbies won't and I see no reason for this not to work OOTB.

Anybody else?

Did you send the details of the needed fix to dev@mepis.org?

If you have 3D/Desktop Effects enabled (default) and for e.g., it's initially OpenGL but you change it to XRender, it changes to that but you can't change back.

There is a message that the attempt failed.

Thanks, but he has known how to fix that since 2004, he's just being forgetful or something.

Maybe, but what is the fix?

He used to have ndiswrapper enabled by default, and use the Windows drivers he had stored. Now the thing runs fine with the b43 kernel module, so I think that just has to be loaded at boot. I don't think any firmware is involved with this.

Since we know that there are commands that will return the name of the chipset, I fail to understand why a simple array could not be set up to querry the chipset, find the driver, and set it up--without the user ever seeing the process. But there are a lot of such things I fail to understand...

Still no joy with flashplugin in 64-bit. I get the same problem in Mint and Sidux (both deb - no non-deb 64-bit to check with) so I guess it's something with my system.

Athlon 2800+ 64-bit, nvidia geforce 6200, 1.5GB RAM, ASRock K8Upgrade-VM800

I've tried both the mozilla and the non-free plugins and the terminal fix suggested by WW.

Information that pops up when inserted in a Windows machine (on D:/info/index.html talks about MEPIS Linux 8.0 also displays the old KDE 3.5 images.

That's true, we're going to have to update that. Hadn't remembered it existed...
