Might as well us this thread for posting any bugs, comments, queries re this release, either from fresh install of beta1 or upgrades from the alpha (8.4.80) 8.5 release.

This release only reflects the addition of the Mepis theme and no other changes until we get a patch for the kernel, I sent Warren a link about a needed 2.6.32 kernel patch that will hopefully fix some of the problems we have been seeing.

Warren has limited hardware for testing Mepis, and is the reason why input from its users is so important, report errors that you see, turn on logging and read the logs as superuser, copy and paste errors and send them to Warren and you will have another Mepis release that you can be proud of.

I'm hoping I can continue to update via apt all the way to 8.5 final. I finally have things pretty much as I want them and don't really cherish re-tweaking. (lol)

I will eventually though.....

It would be nice if there were xdelta's made available to patch the Alpha iso, as apparently the Beta-1 release
is more-or-less (just) updating artwork (which I already installed) plus certain other mepis-config packages ( the apt-get upgrade stuff this weekend).
Seems a shame to waste 100+GB server (and user) bandwidth to re-download a full 700MB iso for limited changes.
I'll be waiting awhile (next Beta or 2, unless xdelta's are available) for further testing, as I'm working / experimenting towards
getting an optimal set-up (for me) under KDE4.3.2 currently.

Thumbs up

Running it now 32 bit. After install I added test repos and CR, apt-get update, dpkg --get-selections and set back and waited, Everything installed except one old file

Everything ran OOB except for my wifi password and ssid needing to be set.

Are you sure this is a beta and not at least an RC or RTM?

Great job by Warren.

Specs Asus eee pc 1000HA, 2 GM memory, 160 GB HD. Intel graphics and sound HDA, Atheros ATH5 Wifi as ath0.

My Acer Aspire One doesn't like the heavy desktop. I had to turn off some of the effects to get the responsiveness I wanted.

Still seems to srtuggle with wifi. Got it running with the alpha a lot of fiddling, but so far no luck wih the beta, either though Mepis Network Assistant or the network icon on the panel. Just requires more effort until I discover the magic key. This is from the LiveCd. I may install on my desktop used mostly for network data backup and printer access, but that is direct connected.
