Community Members - I'm pleased to announce that the Community Repository is back and once again available to be added to your sources list. Details as follows:
REPO ACCESS INSTRUCTIONS ************************************************* Mepis 8 Only Quote:
Quote:
************************************************* Mepis 7 Only Quote:
You can add this automatically to your Mepis 7 sources list by opening a konsole, and as root: Quote:
While still as root, then run apt-get update, then close konsole. ************************************************* THANKS TO THE TEAM! I'd like to take a moment to mention the team that made this all possible: Marcos, Tim, Allan, and Jon. Marcos has completely reimaged the repo on Tim's server (countless hours). Tim, Allan, and Jon have all given space and bandwidth on their own servers (plus excellent advice, time, research) - so the plan is to eventually run a couple of mirrors to avoid the chance of an outage like we've had again. Warren has also been kept fully in the loop the whole time. I hope the above mentioned all drop in with a brief comment on this thread - as I'd like to give the whole community the chance to thank these guys. When they do - please show your appreciation. My part was simply the grease to get the machine moving. These guys did all the technical stuff and spent all the time. They are a true example of the Mepis Community spirit! HOUSEKEEPING There are a couple of changes.

Great work all!
![]() I still like the idea of using a Mepis titled url for the repo, as Mmelbert and others suggested, use say repo.mepiscommunity.org and set the dns to point to the mirror/s. Basically something that hopefully not change very often - if at all, to avoid confusion, and that can be included in the official sources.lst ('#'ed out). |

We have already an url (with the mepis name on it) which will be used by all the mirrors, using the subdomain to access to a given one. We are still testing the DNS redirection but it is still not "final". We will inform the community as soon as the redirections and mirros are working and have been thoroughly tested.

One small note: If users would want the testrepo to be enabled at the same time, then the '#' in front of the second line (after the second '&& echo') needs to be removed - before hitting 'Enter'... Then it would look like this: echo '# Mepis Community Main and Test Repo' >> /etc/apt/sources.list && echo 'deb http://teharris.net/mepiscr/repo/ mepis8cr main non-free' >> /etc/apt/sources.list && echo 'deb http://teharris.net/mepiscr/testrepo/ mepis8cr test' >> /etc/apt/sources.list Regards, Ko |

Makes me smile to see this group growing, packaging software, making remastered discs and installing servers, Warren must be proud.
