Update: 08 Dec 2009: Version 0.85.1 should very soon appear in the test repo. Currently the project's home page lists all the new features and bug fixes.
Update: 7 July 2009: Shutter 0.80 will be in the MLCR test repo as soon as it syncs. Ported over from the getdeb.net version, it also requires a couple of other packages only found in the community repo: libgoo-canvas-perl and gnome-web-photo. New Features: (though I get an error with the Distortion plugin) -- Undo/Redo functionality in Drawing Tool -- Added arrow shape to Drawing Tool -- Added highlighter/marker to Drawing Tool -- Added numbered tags to Drawing Tool -- Added crop tool to Drawing Tool -- Functionality to resize the canvas -- Zoomable image preview -- New 'Copy filename' action -- Added access to 'Recent files' -- New watermark plugin -- New reflection plugin -- New distortion plugin -- New 3D rotate plugin Shutter is a gnome based screenshot utility with lots of features. It will work just fine on a KDE desktop, also. It is a updated and renamed version of an app with the somewhat disquieting name of Gscrot. (Good idea to rename it, devs) Feature-rich screenshot application Shutter is a feature-rich screenshot program. You can take a screenshot of a specific area, window, your whole screen, or even of a website - apply different effects to it, draw on it to highlight points, and then upload to a image hosting site, all within one window. The Shutter homepage is http://shutter-project.org Feedback on installation, menu function, and how well the program works is needed to get this into the main repository.

Installed flawlessly in Mepis 8 64 bits. All dependencies fetched properly. It can be found under kmenu->utilities. Launches ok and works properly (tried region and fullscreen captures). Once launched an icon is displayed in kirocker.
The kmenu icon is not showing despite the desktop file has an entry for it. PS: If you want to localize the menu entry add to the desktop file: Code:
Name[es]=Shutter - Herramienta de captura de pantallas Comment[es]=Shutter - Herramienta de captura de pantallas |

Ok. It seems that the problem with the icon is that it is in svg format, you have to install a png version, otherwise it won't be visible in the Kmenu

Could someone take a few moments of their valuable time and explain the difference between Shutter and Ksnapshot?
I used Techsmith's "Snagit" for a number of years, and the one of the feature I miss aside from the simple graphic editor is the scrolling window function that would capture vertically beyond the screen (tall window), but it appears shutter does not have this capability... http://www.techsmith.com/learn/snagi...han-window.asp JR * * * 64-bit version or Mepis8 |

Shutter can do the "long window" thing only for web pages, unfortunately (and it was a hassle getting the right xulrunner-dev package to be installed for it to do that, too)...
Here's a review of its features. |

I was going to install it, but it wants to add 12+ mb--which is too heavy for a screenshot app on my machine.

This is a good step forward, for the individuals that can add the extra dependencies it is a very nice addition to have the web capture capabilities... I always wondered what i would use Snagit for, when a co-worker pushed me into purchasing that software years ago... After having it and using it, for so many different things, when I was not at a system with Snagit, I found I had become dependent on the software... When i moved to Linux, it was one of the software packages I missed. I use Ksnapshot a great deal, and Shutter I will learn to use, it is different than Snagit, but on the surface I believe Shutter can accomplish more than Ksnapshot. Thanks Stevo...
