Linux Torvalds voiced his opinion on the tendencies of BSD developers to focus on security bugs above anything else in their development. In doing so Linus made one of the best, or worst depending on your point of view, metaphors ever when it comes to describing BSD developers like Theo de Raadt.
Oh, and it involved monkey's. Given the actual statement, I'm just going to link to it. http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/706950

m#$^*&%#ing monkeys is an image I would prefer not to have in my mind. But it is an interesting turn of phrase. Linus does not appear to be shy about voicing an opinion.

Why is it that I can't stand Ballmer when he is (being) rude, and Linus always has me falling off my chair?

Because people like Linus who does stuff have the right to say whatever they want as opposed to people who manage other people. Ask Ballmer to write code or hack the kernel... Ballmer is the epitome of pointed-hair bosses who can only spurt idiocies when he opens his mouth.

I've been impressed with PCBSD 1.5.1 for the ease of install and, yes, security. I'm not very impressed with the selection of software available from their repositories. I also like the aesthetics of their Desktop as it is presented in the default install.
But in the end all bugs are bugs. It just depends on how much they effect a normal days computing. In other words a security hole that is so esoteric that it's not known or going to be known is not a security risk unless it's not fixed before it gets into the wild. But a bug that brings your Desktop down.....

Googling Linus quotes can provide *hours* of outright laughter.
You never have to second-guess his stance, and he never beats around the bush. That's why I respect him. He's just coder-blunt ;-) As to Theo, he's just probably tired of The Rat's big mouth ![]() |
