Canon Network Printer

I am fairly new to Linux but have been making my way around. I have tried the *buntu distros and others but have finally tried Mepis 8 and find it very much to my liking! Great job Warren and Community. Now for my request. In the other distros I have been able to get my Canon PIXMA MX700 to work over the network my installing the drivers and also compiling and installing CUPS-BJNP. After completing this install then CUPS can detect the printer on the network and I can set it up with the PPD file. I have tried to compile on Mepis but I keep getting an error about the folder not being there. Could someone please package this and make it available through Synaptic. The BJNP source can be found at sourceforge just do a Google on cups-bjnp and it will be right at the top.

I have tried just installing the drivers and using the CUPS interface to setup http printing but I can't get anything to print.

Thanks Jerry! I found a post that there is a package request out there for Debian on the wishlist so maybe it will come out from them. Canon and thier USB over IP protocol really is what makes it hard. If they had used a regular TCP protocol then it would be a breeze. I appreciate your quick reply!
